Observe April 22, CPI (ML) Formation Day

18 April 2015
TheCentral Committee meeting of the CPI (ML) Red Star has called on all party committees to observe April 22, CPI (ML) Formation Day with the slogan: 'Defeat revisionism, defeat anarchism, build unified revolutionary communist party in India.' At a time when the activities of the revisionists and anarchists of all hues are further disintegrating the movement, this call is very significant. Refusing to take lessons form ideological struggle in the 1960s even some organizations who call themselves Marxist-Leninists are joining hands with the revisionist camp led by the CPI (M). Forgetting the havoc created by the left adventurist line which disintegrated the CPI (ML) in its beginning years, some others are refusing to draw a line of demarcation with the anarchist trend. At the same time with the advent to power of ultra rightist BJP government to power it is crystal clear that without unified revolutionary Communist party at the helm, the people's movement against the ruling system in the country cannot be led forward. Taking all these aspects in to consideration the importance of observing the Party Day with this slogan is very significant.

A glance through the history of the movement shows that by 1950s the international communist movement had scored significant victories. It looked like the socialist forces were capable of defeating the imperialist camp led by the US. It was at this time the revisionist forces had usurped power in Soviet Union. Refusing to make a concrete analysis of the post - Second World War world situation when the US led imperialists had transformed their colonial forms of plunder to neo-colonial forms, they called for peaceful competition and co-existence with imperialism, and advocated peaceful transition to socialism abandoning the path of class struggle. Instead of struggling against neocolonialism, they became its apologists. All those communist parties around the world, who followed this line, including the CPI leadership in India, soon degenerated to social democratic positions and embraced the path of parliamentary cretinism.

The struggle against this line of class compromise led to split in the CPI and to the formation of CPI (M) in 1964. But its leadership refused to settle accounts with the Soviet revisionist line and to take the path of leading the toiling masses to completion of the tasks of People's Democratic Revolution, overthrowing the Indian state of comprador bureaucratic bourgeois-big landlord classes serving imperialism. By the time of the 1967 general elections they started degenerating to the line of parliamentary cretinism and reformism. It was the bitter struggle against the revisionist line of CPI and CPI (M) by the Communist Revolutionaries which led to Naxalbari Uprising, which soon spread to all India level, paving the way for formation of CPI (ML) in 1969, bringing back revolution to the agenda of the communist movement. Though the left adventurist line soon dominated the movement leading to its disintegration, it is the communist revolutionaries who kept the spark of revolution alive leading to present efforts for unity.

In the present juncture, when the revisionists and anarchists of all hues are weakening and there is urgent need for building an alternative to the ruling system uniting the struggling left and democratic forces, it is possible only if the communist revolutionaries are united in to a unified revolutionary communist party based on the ideological political line conforming to present concrete conditions. The successful holding of the Tenth Congress of the CPI(ML) Red Star and the unity of many revolutionary groups during this process have paved the way for further advances along this path. Let us observe the Party Formation Day with the determination to carry forward this historic task

The Communist movement in India has a history of almost a century after the salvos of October Revolution in Russia brought Marxism-Leninism to the people of India who were engaged in the national liberation struggle against the British colonialists. It is a complex and chequered history.
