Protest Dharna at Jantar Mantar against Repression on Bhangar Movement

IN the middle of reports about imposing of UAPA against comrades Pradip Singh Thakur and Sharmistha and the 11 members of the Committee for Protection of Land, Livelihood and Environment of Bhangar who were sent to jail on 8th February after 14 days of police custody by the lower court, a successful dharna was organized at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on 8th February with the participation of leaders of a number of struggling left, democratic forces including comrades Sivmangal Sidhantkar, Mrigank, Arjun Prasad, Rajkumar of Delhi Jan Manch, Raghav of SPP, com Labh Singh from Punjab etc. The program started with com. KNR explaining in detail the way the movement has started, how increasing number of villagers are joining it, how they are getting politicized to lead a long struggle, how he was abducted and kept in illegal custody before being deported from Bengal by thugs claiming themselves as central intelligence forces, and how the Committee is planning to lead the mass struggle forward along with a Public hearing by prominent democrats and the legal struggle for the release of all arrested. Leaders of almost all different organizations whose names were already announced through social media, and a good number of activists of Red Star and other organizations actively participated. Amidst inspiring slogans all speakers declared solidarity with the movement and extended full support to it. Comrades Umakant and Vimal Trivedi conducted the program. The three hour dharna was followed by handing over a memorandum to the office of the President of India requesting him for immediate steps to call for discussions with the Committee as well as the release of all arrested comrades
