Adivasis in South Rajasthan Demands Autonomous Council
The meeting of the leading cadres of All India Krantikari Adivasi Mhasabha (AIKAM) from South Rajasthan region on 6th June evening discussed the land grabbing taking place in the name of various so-called development projects like amusement projects and for large scale mining which is displacing tens of thousands of adivasi families from their villages. While government refuse s to give land records to these people living in the area for centuries, more and more families are displaced.
As a result tens of thousands of adivasis are forced to migrate to nearby areas, even of Gujarat and MP where they are leading a miserable life. Trafficking of young girls and women are taking place on a large scale with many mafias active in the region for this purpose. When the adivasis who constitute a majority in Udaipur, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Basavada, Sirohi and Chittodgarh districts of South Rajasthan are thus facing devastation, the consecutive central and state governments refused to implement the formation of the Adivasi Autonomous Council under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution. So far this demand was not put forward by any political party of Adivasi organization under pressure from the vested interests. In this situation the Krantikari Adivasi Mahasabha has decided to launch a powerful campaign covering all these areas. It will seek to expand the struggle to contiguous adivasi districts like Jhabua in MP and Himmatnagar in Gujarat also.
The meeting of the CPI(ML) activists, who had severed relations with CPI(ML) Liberation during last five years in South Rajasthan, in continuation to a series of political discussions with the CPI(ML) leadership, held a meeting on 6th June morning attended by com KN Ramachandran, General Secretary, CPI(ML), discussed the line of the Party and agreed to join it. In order to launch activities in the state, especially in South Rajasthan, a state organizing consisting of five comrades with com. Laxmilal as its secretary was formed. An Udaipur district organizing committee with com. Purenmal as secretary also was formed. The organizing committee convened the meeting of the adivasi comrades from Udaipur and nearby districts which formed the organizing committee for the Krantilari Adivasi Mahasabha and decided to launch the agitation for the formation of South Rajasthan Adivasi Autonomous Council comprising of six districts in the state.
In a Press Conference held on 7th June, com. KN Ramachandran and com. Laxmilal declared that the demand for the autonomous council for the adivasis will be raised immediately and the people will be mobilized for a big agitation.
