AIRWO Calls for Three Months Campaign Against Atrocities on Women and for Equal Rigths

THE TWO DAYS long meeting of the Central Committee of the AIRWO was held at Delhi on 2nd and 3rd June successfully. It was attended by comrades from Kerala, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Bengal, UP, Chhattisgarh, MP and an observer from Delhi. It heard reports of activities from different states, discussed the increasing atrocities and attacks against the women in present situation when the neo-liberal policies are reducing women in to a mere commodity and decided to launch a three month long campaign. The following observations and decisions were made:
The meeting decided that the habit of study must be seriously developed, at least in the leadership. Propaganda based on central organs: Breaking the Shackles and Todo Bandhan should be organized. The meeting decided that without a proper understanding of all the different aspects of the women’s question it will not be possible to give leadership to a nationwide revolutionary women’s movement. All states would take a vigorous drive to sell Breaking the Shackles and/or Todo Bandhan, and try and reach out to as many students, intellectuals, academics and activists as possible.
AIRWO will launch a three-month all-India campaign from July 1 on three key issues: Violence against women, Equal rights and the Liquor problem. A central handbill will be drafted and sent to all the states, but every state can add its own points to the handbill. A central poster will also be designed and sent. All states should take up a series of programmes as part of this campaign in order to consolidate the organization, assert its existence and uphold its revolutionary orientation with the following slogans and any other slogans added by the state committees.
Unite and struggle against violence on women in any form
Struggle for dignity and equal rights
Struggle against commercialization of women
Liquor breeds violence – say ‘No’ to liquor
Struggle to uproot the menace of alcoholism
Unite against all forms of state violence on women
Unite to protest against derogatory representation of women in media.
