28 May 2015
THREE activists of PCC–CPI(ML), including their Midnapore district secretary Com Niranjan Bera, have been arrested and remanded to police custody for putting up posters demanding the release of ChhatradharMahato and other convicted leaders of the Lalgarh Movement. The other two activists are Com Jiten Giri and Com Sunil Barik. After the judgment of the Midnapore Court sentencing ChhatradharMahato and five others to life imprisonment, political and rights activists all over the state staged protests. The PCC comrades were first illegally detained for over 24 hours and then when pressure on the police and administration mounted, they were produced in court. All of them have been slapped with sedition charges. CPI(ML) Red Star has condemned their arrest and demanded their immediate release. At the same time, it has called on the people to respond to this latest burst of state terror by taking to the streets militantly.
