51st Anniversary of Naxalbari Uprising Observed with Resolve to Advance Communist Assertion

04 June 2018
THE 51st anniversary of Naxalbari Uprising was observed at many places by the party committees with the firm resolve to advance independent communist assertion. On this day last year comrades from all states had assembled at Naxalbari observing the 50th anniversary of Naxalbari Uprising, declaring our revolutionary resolve to spread mass people’s resistance all over the country against growing dangers of corporatization, communal fascism and shrinking democratic space everywhere. During the last one year, in spite of the efforts of the toiling and oppressed masses the dangers of corporate fascism has only increased. The recent elections in Karnataka and WB have further exposed the limits of the present parliamentary system and how it is degenerating fast day by day. All oppressed classes and sections including minorities are facing increasing pauperization, and casteist-Manuvadi attacks. The working class and peasantry are under unprecedented plunder and deprivation.

The only positive aspect in the midst of these darkening clouds is the growing people’s resistance movement at a number of places spearheaded by the Bhangar movement led by the Committee for Protection of Land, Livelihood, Ecology and Environment. These are the same demands everywhere, along with the aspiration for an egalitarian, casteless, genuinely secular people’s democracy. Let us resolve to carry forward the lessons of Naxalbari Uprising towards creating Bhangar like movements wherever possible, and march forward towards strengthening communist assertion overcoming all obstacles. 

The Communist movement in India has a history of almost a century after the salvos of October Revolution in Russia brought Marxism-Leninism to the people of India who were engaged in the national liberation struggle against the British colonialists. It is a complex and chequered history.
