INTENSIFY CAMPAIGN FOR RELEASE OF COMRADE ALIK

02 July 2018
COMRADE ALIK CHAKRABORTY, Polit Bureau member of CPI(ML) Red Star and chief organizer of Anti Power Grid Movement at Bhangar, West Bengal, was arrested from Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He is seriously ill for a long time. For medical treatment he was forced to go to Bhubaneswar, because in West Bengal medical treatment is not possible due to state and non-state terror generally and to Bhangar movement particularly. Now it is a most urgent task before the party to launch countrywide campaign for immediate and unconditional release of Com. Alik, uniting with the fraternal forces and mobilizing support of all progressive democratic forces.

A central poster from Central Committee demanding immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Alik in English and Hindi is already published. All state committees should publish this poster in their own languages. Continue countrywide signature campaign with a view to collect signature of prominent individuals and organizations from every walk of life demanding Com. Alik’s release. Then it should be published from different centers of India. Start online signature campaign also to reach wider section of the people.

On 5th July, it is planned to organize demonstrations throughout India. On that date, every state committee will give memorandum along with the signatures we have collected in each state addressed to the Governor of West Bengal through respective Governors demanding immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Alik. The Central and state Organs from July onwards up to release of Comrade Alik will give prominent place in the front page of the journal for his immediate and unconditional release.

Comrades, Only a sustained and relentless countrywide protest campaign and movement will force the Mamta government to give immediate and unconditional release of comrade Alik. This campaign shall help the legal efforts made to get release to comrade as early as possible. It shall also help to consolidate and develop the Bhangar movement to a new level. So, we appeal to all fraternal forces, progressive democratic forces and all party committees to make timely, necessary and adequate preparation for carrying forward this very urgent task. 

The Communist movement in India has a history of almost a century after the salvos of October Revolution in Russia brought Marxism-Leninism to the people of India who were engaged in the national liberation struggle against the British colonialists. It is a complex and chequered history.
