Condemn Cabinet Decision for Ten Nuclear Reactors

30 May 2017
IT is most reprehensible that the Modi cabinet has given nod for ten nuclear plants in addition to speeding up efforts to complete the already announced projects by the nuclear establishment. All the imperialist countries with their higher technical knowledge about these reactors than Indian nuclear establishment have started decommissioning existing ones and have decided not to go for any more reactors. As a result, the nuclear MNCs like Westinghouse of US and Areva of France have become bankrupt. These developed countries have rejected nuclear option, not only because it is the costliest, but because it is extremely dangerous as proved by the melt down of Fukushima plant in Japan. All these countries have gone for renewable energy sources like solar, wind etc. It is in this context, the All India people’s Initiative against Nuclear Power had organized mass movements which thwarted the moves of UPA government for ten nuclear plants.

In spite of people’s opposition, if Modi government goes ahead with imposing these dangerous reactors, we should once again organize campaigns for educating about the dangers of nuclear reactors, mobilize the masses, and defeat these moves

The Communist movement in India has a history of almost a century after the salvos of October Revolution in Russia brought Marxism-Leninism to the people of India who were engaged in the national liberation struggle against the British colonialists. It is a complex and chequered history.
